Learn how to build traditional skills toward creating original anime & manga style characters through private and group classes!

Program Description

How to Draw Anime & Manga pairs together traditional drawing techniques with an observation of Japan’s most popular forms of media, anime and manga. Students will be encouraged to practice foundational drawing habits which can later be applied to their own original anime characters.


 Introduction to Drawing Anime & Manga (Drop-In)

$40

Level: Beginner

Age: 10 and up

Time: 3:30 - 5:30 PM second Saturday of every month.

Location: Japanese Culture Center, located at 1016 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657.

This is an introductory course for students who are moderately interested or just want to try things out! Each drop-in class conveniently offers a jam packed intro to some of the courses offered in the full, 6-week, How to Draw Anime & Manga class.

Drawing materials will be provided! Students are encourage to bring along their favorite sketchbook.

Each class is accompanied by anime music and references from popular anime series.

Time: 6:00 - 7:00 PM

Drawing Anime & Manga is an 6-week course that moves through the foundations of illustration, through the lens of anime and manga. Students will follow along with the instructor as they learn the elements of creating simple shapes, 1-point perspective, figure drawing, scene composition, contrast and lighting, and ink and color. Students will end the courses learning out to draw and ink their very own manga panels.

All supplies will be provided and are included in the course fee.

Each class is accompanied by anime music and references from popular anime series.

Drawing Anime & Manga Private Class/Tutoring

$325 ($150 for additional friends or family) per 6-week session

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Age: 10 and up

Duration: 1 hour

Date, Time, and Location can be coordinated with instructor.

A $25 fee will be added to course total for locations that require travel outside of Logan Square neighborhood.

Private classes and tutoring are available to students who are in need of a flexible schedule or are simply more comfortable in a different setting. If you prefer learning at home, a local spot, or simply do better with a few less distractions feel free to contact for more information.
